Reputation Points
« on: January 10, 2012, 05:11:23 pm »
Are you interested in having reputation points on your profile, as has been the case in the past, or would you rather not have them?  Please vote.  Majority rules.  I will only vote in the event of a tie.  This vote is open to all members, and opinions are very welcome.

If the membership decides to reinstate the reputation system, send me a PM, and let me know how many points you had, and I will try to fix each persons reputation to what it was.

The world is not always fair.  Sometimes someone has to stand up and be a meanie and say: This is the way it's going to be.

I personally think the reputation points were stupid.  Not everyone will agree with that.  A slightly better indication of reputation is a person's post count, but that can also be misleading.  I remember an ex member that would basically post: "yes, I agree", or something equally pointless on every thread.  Maybe we should add something along the lines of: member since xx/xx/xx, or "I have spent X hours on this site".

Neil I'm talking to the other mods right now.I have suggested something along these lines.I was thinking more along the lines.Of based off experience. For Example.

David E Chong,Arnold Rhonald,Willy,Scott. These are guys that are married and living with there wives. So lets say something like They are Veteran members.

You,Reverend Mike,Shaun. You guys have made the trips married the lady. So we would call you guys something like members in good standing. Then the mods could go in after you have brought your wife to Canada. And move you up to veteran member. We could also probably put your membership date in and maybe even go with military rank system as a guide line.

For example you would be like a lieutenant .And Chong would be a Captan.I do believe that newbie members do need a guideline to go by.I don't be leave another member should be able to give you a negative rep point.Just because they didn't like what you posted.

Lieutenant? Captan? When joining the forum did we the Army too?  :o  There are some on here that would not have a rank even with their own experience. Experience in a subject is so wide spread how do you promote just a few and leave the rest to the unknown soldier tombs?

Maxx I understand where your coming from and I have no other suggestions.  but by doing it this way you are making it elitist
what about those who have been to china on more than ome occasion, have we not also got something valuable to contribute?

I'm not amusing myself just showing an obvious observation. Just because some are married doesn't make them experts on all subjects (sorry guys) as the lead people on the forum. This sounds like write to them only for answers? Sorry I always thought this was OUR forum? enough said

Vince, its because of you bringing in a different opinion that gives some of us a new way to view it...so I appreciate it.  And yes, it is all of our forum...it always will be.

Rob isn't that what you all want?We dont have to use military ranking we don't have to use titels. We are just looking for a way to reward are members who make the trips.whoTake the time.To post there insites and ideas. We need to have a way to let the newbiies know. That the posts they are reading. That the member who wrote the posts doe's know what he is talking about

We could go back to the old point system. And have it mod controled. The other forum I belong to uses labels.I'm a newbie.Ive made 14 posts on a boating forum.Ive ben there for over a year and a half. But since I make so few posts.I'm considerd a newbie. And yes it is mod controlled.I'm not a mod on that forum.

So lets here some ideas.

Vince I agree it doe's not make the married guys expert on all topics.A good example is Robert Snellgrove. That man has forgot more about the immagration process. Then I ever knew.So if it's got to do with immagration to the states your best bet is to talk to Robert.

Now how do we tell the newbie members that.I'm all in to change the system.Or go back to the old way.But have it mod controlled and not member controlled..What do you guys and galls want to do.

If we go back to the old way where members can deduct points, then can I sugeest that ANYONE who rewards or deducts points, that must be followed up by a post to say exactly why they done it.

Not just a 'I don't agree with what he wrote', but a full and valid reason for it, with mod for that particular section, i.e campfire then deciding 'Yes or No' thats not happening...

and on a lighter note, I think I deserve a rep point for this suggestion... ;D ;D ;D

Rob, the problem with this is, we have no way to know who gives a negative rep.  So although we can say this is a rule, there is no way to enforce it.  - rep for trying to sneak in a + rep. lol

Can't be done by how many posts. The most posts doesn't make an expert (and that's me). Any ranking doesn't do it either. Maybe? a title with the right wording "established member"? The forum was never made or setup for titled departments. Married questions, single quests, visa quests and with one replier.

Keeping it real... All the most present members have their experiences. If a question is asked lets say about a k1/k3 I just don't answer it or just direct them to an answer.
