...Our tastes in MUSIC
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:38:57 pm »
I thought i would be a little rest-bite if we had a Music Thread on the Forum, that we could take a little time out every now an then, to listen to other members tastes in music. Or to post a track/song that means or meant something to you, at sometime in your life.....

I personally have a diverse taste in Music, but not that keen on Classical.
If you post on this Thread, .... Then Post a song or a track, along with any comments!!!

My First Track, Takes me back to the First time i went to a live concert.
1974 i went to see these guy's in London, the video however isn't from that concert.  Oh, those were the day's ....Remember??  hahaha!!

David....
This should tell you just how diverse my taste in music is haha!!

I've been buying this groups records, for 20 years. I'm pretty sure that most of the Americans wont have heard of them. But they have toured in the states a few times , so maybe some of you do know them.

Wow, i don't even know where to begin with this one, i went to my first all night rave when i was 15 (please don't tell my mum!!!:icon_cheesygrin:) and that was 21 years ago now! since then i have pretty much enjoyed a huge range of different music interests, but this one always brings back good memories of driving back from somewhere after a good night with the sun rising over the horizon. Ahhh, i'm reminiscing already. :)

This is another group that i've been listening to for years,  Whenever i hear there music, my mind whisks me back to Jeddah Saudi Arabia... Funny how a particular song can do that isn't??....
If you've never heard of them, ...They are a Swedish Group, well know in the late 80's and 90's with several Album CD'S to there credit.. This just happens to be one of my favourite tracks.....

Roxette, now that takes me back to the 80's. Damn it, i almost managed to block that decade out until now...! I always wondered who bought their songs. :icon_cheesygrin: Hears another one that has meaning to me that i wont go into, Most people will now of the Jonny Cash version (rip) but i prefer the origional version written by Trent Reznor and performed by Nine Inch Nails on the downward spiral album, 1994. I could not find a version of that on Youtube, but here is Trent singing it a few years back.

A classic: A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran

OMG THE HAIR !!

I loved the garage bands of the 80's, also love most New Zealand bands, a brief selection:

Headless Chickens - Cruise Control
Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man
The Chills - Leather Jacket
-----------------------------------------------
Dave Dobbyn - Loyal
Dave Dobbyn - Slice of Heaven

Dave is pretty much a Kiwi icon. In 2001, after 25 years as a musician and songwriter, Dobbyn was given a rare, lifetime achievement award by the New Zealand recording industry. Instead of a speech, the managing director of Sony Music New Zealand just read out a list of song titles.

The list went on for some time: 'Beside You', 'Be Mine Tonight', 'Language', 'Outlook For Thursday', 'Loyal', 'Whaling', 'Kingdom Come', 'It Dawned On Me', 'Guilty', 'Devil You Know', 'Slice of Heaven', 'Magic What She Do', 'Oughta Be in Love' ...

These songs written by Dobbyn had moved people throughout the country. They were songs they had danced to with their first lover, songs they have married to, songs that have made them laugh and cry. These songs they have even played when burying their loved ones.
World Famous in New Zealand since ages ago.

Well im gonna be the oddball one here.

I enjoy all views of music. cept old country and this new what they call it rap. Old rap i have alot of laughs with.

But my main is death or progressive metal. Nothing like hearing thrash in the morning to get the blood going. Cant understand a word they say at times. But the get up and go theory is definately there.

ok a few then. not my favs but i do listen to these groups.

Progrssive metal side

Tristania  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uje_RvacpS8

Inkubus Sukkubus  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nExv_mKM5po

Elvenking  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9hPp_OHUHg

Blind Guardian  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azrKXvW5jVM

Then the dark side

Which i will not post. of course ya know why. He he he.

Then theres these for just relaxing

Tristram   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8

Yuriko  Only if she was real. The power she possesses. And yes there was many sleepless nights playing this game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr493_89eGY&feature=related

Oh last but not least. Love this video.

Had a long list but clickies didnt work :(

Morbid Angel
Metallica
Tool
Marilyn Manson

Tool and Metallica are two of my favourite too. I just saw Tool for the 5th or 6th time last Wednesday and I'm going to see Metallica for the 8th or so time in late October!

My girl was asking me about the TOOL concert and wanted to know more about the band. I didn't think she'd like it because they're incredibly unique. She ended up downloaidng some of their tunes anyway and her favourite was the same song that got me and most of their fans into them...

Tool - Sober

Lately I've been into a lot of European Symphonic, Prog and Celtic/Folk Metal though.

SuidAkra - Dead Man's Reel (instrumental Metal with Celtic overtones)

Interesting enough that same band played a show in Shenyang where my girl lives. She went to a music fest with all German bands but she doesn't think she saw them there.

SuidAkra - Live in Shenyang

Another band I've been getting really into is Nightwish. A Finnish symphonic metal band. They changed vocalist for their last album but the vocalist on all the earlier albums was an opera singer which gave the band quiet a unique  sound.

Nightwish - Phantom of the opera (Live)

Anyway, it's probably stuff most others are not into but I love it and I have a really broad range of music taste anyway. Bring up music or hockey and you'll likely have a hard time shutting me up. :)
